With each new search result, it feels like trying to sip from a fire hose. All that information overload can make sifting through what's valuable and what's just fluff seem like an insurmountable task.

I know, I know. You've probably read a hundred blogs on setting goals, and you're wondering, 'How is this any different?'

A life without goals is like setting off on a road trip without a map or destination. You might enjoy the ride for a while, but eventually, you’ll feel lost and unfulfilled.

But if you only focus on one segment of your life, even if you feel you're rockin' it in business, the rest of your life can still have holes. 

Let's return to that daydream from earlier, the one where you imagine what life could be like if you could just...get there. 🌈 

Without goals, this dream remains exactly that—a dream.

It's like being stuck on a boat without a rudder, adrift on the sea of life. You may have a vague idea of where you want to go, but without setting clear and specific goals, you're at the mercy of the currents and winds, unable to steer your own course. Instead of moving forward, you may find yourself going in circles or drifting aimlessly, caught in the monotony of the everyday.

Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years, but that dream life remains just out of reach. Your health, relationships, spiritual journey, and finances remain static, unchanged because there are no set targets to strive for or markers to indicate growth or progress.

This is the reality of a life without goals—a life where dreams remain dreams, and 'what could be' never quite becomes 'what is'.

Let's first clarify what is a goal vs a holistic goal.

A Goal is often defined as the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. They are usually specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Goals convert dreams into reality.  Those goals typically focus on a single outcome, such as achieving a certain job position, reaching a specific weight, or saving a particular amount of money.

A Holistic Goal, on the other hand, is a type of goal that considers the whole person, or the whole life, rather than just one aspect of it. It's about setting goals in all areas of your life that contribute to your overall well-being and fulfillment. This includes, but is not limited to, your career, health, relationships, spirituality, and finances. Holistic goal setting helps you design a life that aligns with your core values and leads to genuine, sustainable satisfaction.  

Holistic goals aim to create balance, acknowledging that every aspect of our life is interconnected. Achieving a goal in one area (like a career) while neglecting others (like health or relationships) may lead to a hollow victory and overall dissatisfaction. Therefore, a holistic goal strives for a well-rounded success that aligns with your values and caters to all aspects of your life.

You've heard the expression "all roads lead to Rome"? 

All pathways in your life lead back to you and your most fulfilling life so they all deserve your attention!

You can still make holistic goals SMART.  But they are more inclusive.

By setting goals in the most important areas of your life, you aren't just making strides towards a promotion or expanding your business—you're architecting your best possible life, brick by brick - and you're acknowledging that you are a well-rounded human.

Here are some often-overlooked facets of this powerful approach to goal setting:

  • Emotional Connection: The emotional resonance of your goals is a potent catalyst for success. If your goals don't strike a chord with you emotionally, they lack the fuel necessary for propulsion. So, take a moment to reflect on why each goal is meaningful to you. What would achieving it mean for your life? How would it make you feel?   6. Create an Action Plan: For each goal, create a clear action plan. What steps do you need to take to achieve this goal? When will you take them? What resources will you need? A clear plan will make it easier to stay on track.
