Even the most resilient of us can find our coping skills of the past may not work as well anymore after two years of acclimating to a new climate. But we don't know how to effectively fortify them. There are new challenges, new environments and demands that require us to be more adaptable than ever, to shift and be more flexible. It is an unprecented era of mental and emotional distress. But life must go on and opportunity, success, peace and joy is still possible when we take charge of our mental health.
Impactful self-care habits practiced regularly send signals to the brain that help it differentiate between real and perceived threats. When we can regulate our reaction we give the brain time to think things through and size up situations for a calmer, rational response. Since women are perceived to be "more emotional" it's important to practice calming self care to optimize self regulation.
We can't control every stressor that comes our way. But we can learn to move through stress to calm even in the midst of it. The key to successfully cope and prevent burnout is to get to know and support ourselves with impactful self-care habits that are feasible to do, can help us shift our thoughts away from old patterns, find peace even amidst the noise, stay physically healthy, and live a life of meaning, generosity and compassion. That is true success!
